Sula leucogaster
Diet
Small fish, taken by plunge-diving
Habitat
Inshore waters; nests on the ground
Range
Pantropical
The brown booby is a large seabird, one of the most common and widespread of its family, with a pantropical range. It is gregarious and commutes and forages at low height over inshore waters. Flocks plunge-dive to take small fish, especially when predators drive them near the surface. It nests only on the ground and roosts on solid objects rather than the water (Wikipedia, general species account).
Two subspecies are recognised now; plotus is listed for the Red Sea through the Indian Ocean to the west and central Pacific. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
