South Asia and Southeast Asia

The Indian wolf snake, or common wolf snake, is a non-venomous colubrid native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. Early naturalists noted its resemblance to the venomous common krait, an example of Batesian mimicry. Colouration is variable, and the presence of a loreal shield, absent in kraits, can be used to tell the two apart. The snout is broad, much depressed and spatulate, with a swollen upper lip (Wikipedia, general species account).

Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
