Pallas's gull, also called the great black-headed gull, is a very large gull and the world's largest black-headed gull, third largest of all gulls. It is 55 to 72 cm long with a wingspan of 142 to 170 cm and weighs 0.96 to 2.1 kg. Summer adults are unmistakable, since no other gull of this size has a black hood. They have grey wings and back with white mirrors at the wing tips (Wikipedia, general species account).

It breeds in colonies in marshes and on islands from southern Russia to Mongolia, nesting on the ground and laying two to four eggs. It is migratory, wintering in the eastern Mediterranean, Arabia and India, and turns up as a vagrant in parts of the Indian Ocean. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
