Schneider's leaf-nosed bat has three extra leaflets on its nose-leaf, the outer one smaller than the other two, and well-developed lappets by the nostrils. Its colour ranges from grey to orange-brown, paler between the shoulders and below. It hunts insects while flying low and slowly, mostly beetles, flies and mosquitoes caught in vegetation along the edge of open ground (Wikipedia, general species account).
It roosts in colonies of up to 1,000, in caves, underground cellars, old forts, palaces, bridges, temples and tunnels, and Sri Lankan groups cluster more densely than Indian ones. Gestation is 135 to 140 days with a single young, which is carried while foraging until about a week old. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
