South Asia and Southeast Asia; feral populations elsewhere
The Alexandrine parakeet is a medium-sized parrot native to South and Southeast Asia, named after Alexander the Great, who took many of the birds from Punjab to Europe and the Mediterranean, where royalty and nobles prized them. It has established feral populations in several countries in the Middle East, in Pakistan and in parts of Europe, where it lives alongside the rose-ringed parakeet (Wikipedia, general species account).
A 2019 study revived the genus Palaeornis, which could make it the only living member of that genus. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
