Bambaradeniya's shrub frog is endemic to Sri Lanka and known from its type locality on Sripada Peak in the Peak Wilderness at 700 to 1,400 m. It is one of eight new Pseudophilautus species described from Adam's Peak in 2013 (Wickramasinghe et al. 2013, Journal of Threatened Taxa) and is named after the naturalist Dr Channa Bambaradeniya.

Males measure 17.3 to 20.2 mm from snout to vent. The back is dark brown with brown-black blotches and a dark cross-shaped mark between the eyes, and the feature that most easily identifies it is a creamy stripe along the spine from snout to tail end (Wikipedia, general species account).
