Nisaetus cirrhatus
Habitat
Forest
Range
Widely distributed across tropical Asia
The changeable hawk-eagle, or crested hawk-eagle, is a large bird of prey and an agile forest predator that readily switches its prey between birds, mammals, reptiles and other vertebrates. Among the members of its genus it is the most widely distributed, adaptable and abundant. Its plumage varies from pale to dark with moult and age, which gives the species its name, and its tarsi are feathered (Wikipedia, general species account).
It was once placed in Spizaetus, but studies showed that group was not natural, so the Old World species moved to Nisaetus. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as Spizaetus cirrhatus).
