Range

Europe, Asia and North Africa; introduced to Japan, the Americas and Caribbean

The Eurasian collared-dove is grey-buff to pinkish-grey with a black half-collar edged in white on the nape. It is native to Europe, Asia and North Africa and has been introduced to Japan, North and Central America and some Caribbean islands. Its call is a three-note coo, unlike the purring call of the closely related African collared dove (Wikipedia, general species account).

A form once named intercedens, from southern India and Sri Lanka, is now treated as part of the species. The Burmese collared dove was split from it in 2021. Nationally Near Threatened (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
