Turdus simillimus

India and Sri Lanka
Size
19-20cm
The Indian blackbird is a thrush found only in India and Sri Lanka, formerly treated as a subspecies of the common blackbird. The subspecies from most of the Indian subcontinent are small, only 19 to 20 cm long, with broad eye-rings, and differ from the common blackbird in proportions, wing formula, egg colour and voice. Wikipedia describes four Indian subspecies from the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats (Wikipedia, general species account).
The black-capped form has a brownish slate-grey male with a dark cap and a mid-brown female, with a relatively broad yellow eye-ring. Nationally Endangered (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as the Eurasian Blackbird, Turdus merula, before the split, so verify).
