The Indian silverbill, or white-throated munia, is a small finch found in the Indian subcontinent and adjoining regions, and a common resident in the drier parts of the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. It forages in small flocks in grassland and scrub. It is 11 to 11.5 cm long with a conical silver-grey bill, buff-brown upperparts, white underparts, buffy flanks, dark wings, a black tail and a white rump (Wikipedia, general species account).
It has been introduced to many other parts of the world and is established in some. It was formerly placed in Lonchura and, with the African silverbill, is now in its own genus, Euodice. Nationally Vulnerable (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as the White-throated Munia, Lonchura malabarica).
