Steiner's shrub frog is endemic to Sri Lanka and lives at high elevations in the Knuckles Range. It stays in closed-canopy habitat among leaf litter, shrubs and sub-canopy trees, and males have been heard calling from branches 0.3 to 3 m up. Breeding is presumed to be by direct development. It has low tolerance of habitat disturbance because it depends on canopy cover (Wikipedia, general species account).
