Breeds in Mongolia and neighbouring China, Tibet and India; winters on open lowlands in southern Asia
Blyth's pipit is a medium-sized pipit that breeds in Mongolia and neighbouring areas of China, Tibet and India and is a long-distance migrant to open lowlands in southern Asia. It is a large pipit but undistinguished on the ground, mainly brown above and pale below. It is very like Richard's pipit but slightly smaller, with shorter legs and a shorter dark bill (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its flight is strong and direct and its call is a characteristic pshee, higher-pitched than Richard's. It is insectivorous. It is named after the zoologist Edward Blyth, and the species name commemorates Victor Godlewski. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
