Richard's pipit is a medium-sized pipit that breeds in open grasslands in the East Palearctic and is a long-distance migrant to open lowlands in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is a large pipit, 17 to 20 cm long, 25 to 36 g, with a wingspan of 29 to 33 cm. It is slender and often stands very upright, with long yellow-brown legs, a long tail with white outer feathers and a long dark bill with a yellowish base (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is undistinguished on the ground, mainly brown above and pale below, with dark streaks on the upperparts and breast and a strongly marked face. It was once lumped with the Australasian, African, mountain and paddyfield pipits. It is named for the French naturalist Charles Richard. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
