The brown-breasted flycatcher, or Layard's flycatcher, breeds in northeastern India, central and southern China and northern Burma and Thailand, and migrates to southern India and Sri Lanka. It is 13 to 14 cm long and weighs 10 to 14 g. It is olive-brown above with rufous upper tail coverts, a conspicuous eye-ring, a white chin and throat, a pale brown breast and buffy white belly. It forages for insects below the forest canopy, often close to the forest floor (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is like the Asian brown flycatcher but has pale rather than black legs. It was named by Layard after his servant Muttu, who brought him the specimen. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
