Range
South-western India and Sri Lanka
Incubation period
About 12-13 days (southern India)
The square-tailed bulbul is a songbird found in south-western India and Sri Lanka, also called the south Indian black bulbul. It was previously classified as a subspecies of the black bulbul and lacks that species' black streak behind the eye and on the ear coverts. Two subspecies are recognised, and the Sri Lankan one, humii, has a heavier bill than the Indian one (Wikipedia, general species account).
In southern India nesting begins in February and peaks in May, with eggs hatching after 12 to 13 days and chicks fledging after 11 or 12 days, and populations move in response to the monsoon. The 2012 list has no entry under this name; it lists the Asian Black Bulbul (Hypsipetes leucocephalus) as Least Concern, which probably covered this bird before the split (verify).
