Cecropis hyperythra
Habitat
Open country in lowlands and foothills, including farm fields and lightly wooded areas
Range
Endemic to Sri Lanka
The Sri Lanka swallow is a resident breeder endemic to Sri Lanka, closely related to the red-rumped swallow and formerly counted as a subspecies. It is quite a large swallow with a deeply forked tail, a deep rufous underside and an unmarked navy-blue rump, which is unique to the species and, with the rufous underside, separates it from the red-rumped swallow (Wikipedia, species account).
It is found in a variety of open country habitats in the lowlands and foothills, including farm fields and lightly wooded areas, and usually lives in pairs or small groups. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as Hirundo hyperythra; verify the genus swap).
