The black-naped monarch is a monarch flycatcher found in southern and south-eastern Asia. The sexes differ: the male has a distinctive black patch on the back of the head and a narrow black half collar, while the female is duller with olive-brown wings and no black on the head. Its call is similar to that of the Asian paradise flycatcher, and in tropical forest pairs may join mixed-species foraging flocks (Wikipedia, general species account).

Populations differ slightly in colour and size. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
