Legge's flowerpecker, also called the white-throated flowerpecker, is a very small but relatively stout flowerpecker endemic to Sri Lanka, 10 cm long and about 9 g, with a short tail and a short, thick, curved bill and tubular tongue for nectar. It is named after William Vincent Legge. The male has blue-black upperparts, a white throat and upper breast, and a yellow lower breast and belly, and the female is duller with olive-brown upperparts (Wikipedia, species account).
It is a common resident of forests and other well-wooded habitats including gardens. Two eggs are laid in a purse-like nest suspended from a tree. Berries, spiders and insects are eaten as well as nectar. Nationally Vulnerable (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as the Sri Lanka White-throated Flowerpecker, Dicaeum vincens).
