Circumpolar Arctic and subarctic breeder; winters south to Africa and Asia

The dunlin is a small wader that breeds in Arctic or subarctic regions around the pole. Birds from western Europe stay on nearby coasts, while those from far northern Europe and Asia are long-distance migrants wintering south to Africa and southeast and west Asia. Ten subspecies are recognised. The name is a dialect form of dunling, from dun, dull brown (Wikipedia, general species account).

The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
