The thick-billed flowerpecker is a tiny bird that feeds mainly on fruit and is active, mostly seen in the tops of forest trees. It is a resident with a wide distribution across tropical southern Asia from India east to Indonesia and Timor, and eleven subspecies are recognised, some sometimes treated as full species. The subspecies zeylonica is listed for Sri Lanka (Wikipedia, general species account).

It was moved from Dicaeum to the genus Pachyglossa after the old genus proved not to be a natural group. Nationally Near Threatened (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as Dicaeum agile).
