The ashy-headed laughingthrush is a resident breeder endemic to Sri Lanka, a rangy bird 23 cm long with a long floppy tail, rufous-brown above and deep buff below, with a grey head and white throat. Its laughing calls are often the best sign of its presence, since it is hard to see in its preferred habitat. Its habitat is rainforest, and it is rarely seen away from deep jungle or dense bamboo thickets in the wet zone (Wikipedia, species account).

Wikipedia says it occurs in all the wet zone forests and is quite common at Kitulgala and Sinharaja. It builds its nest in a bush, hidden in dense foliage, with a normal clutch of three or four eggs. It often occurs in groups of up to a dozen and in mixed feeding flocks. Nationally Endangered (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as Garrulax cinereifrons).
