The Eurasian oystercatcher is the most widespread oystercatcher, with four subspecies breeding in western Europe, central Eurosiberia, Kamchatka, China and the west coast of Korea. It has striking black and white plumage, a long straight orange-red bill, red eyes and fairly short dull pink legs. The sexes look alike, but the female's bill is longer (Wikipedia, general species account).

The name means oyster gatherer. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
