The grey-headed canary-flycatcher is a small flycatcher-like bird of tropical Asia, 12 to 13 cm long, with a square crest, a grey hood, a canary-yellow belly and yellowish-green upperparts. It has a very flat bill fringed with long bristles. It is found mainly in forested habitats, where it often joins mixed-species flocks, and pairs forage for insects with flycatcher-like sallies, calling aloud (Wikipedia, general species account).
It sits in a very upright posture and the sexes look alike. It is no longer placed with the Old World flycatchers but in the fairy flycatcher family. The nominate subspecies breeds in peninsular India and Sri Lanka, while the Himalayan form winters in southern India. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
