The lesser whitethroat is a common, widespread Old World warbler that breeds in temperate Europe, except the southwest, and in the western and central Palearctic. It is strongly migratory, wintering in Africa just south of the Sahara, Arabia and India. It is a small warbler with a grey back, whitish underparts, a grey head with a darker mask through the eyes and a white throat, and the sexes are almost identical (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is slightly smaller than the common whitethroat, with no chestnut wings, and its song is a fast, rattling series of notes. It is insectivorous but also takes berries and soft fruit. The nest is built in low shrub or brambles, with 3 to 7 eggs. The 2012 National Red List gives no status under this name.
