The yellow-billed babbler is a babbler of southern India and Sri Lanka, a common resident breeder of scrub, cultivation and garden land. Like most babblers it does not migrate, has short rounded wings and a weak flight, and is usually seen calling and foraging in groups. It is often mistaken for the jungle babbler but has a distinctive call and tends to occur in more vegetated habitats (Wikipedia, general species account).

It has grey-brown upperparts, a grey throat and breast with some mottling, a pale buff belly, a grey head and nape and bluish-white eyes. The Sri Lankan subspecies, taprobanus, is drab pale grey and resembles the jungle babbler, which does not occur on the island. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as Turdoides affinis).
