Copsychus fulicatus
Habitat
Open scrub; low thorny shrubs and rocks
Range
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
The Indian robin is widespread in the Indian subcontinent, ranging across Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It is commonly found in open scrub, often running along the ground or perching on low thorny shrubs and rocks. The long tail is usually held up, and the chestnut undertail coverts and dark body separate it from pied bushchats and Oriental magpie-robins (Wikipedia, general species account).
Males of the northern subspecies have brown backs, with the brown reducing southwards, and males of the southern subspecies have all-black backs. It was formerly in its own genus, Saxicoloides. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012, listed as Saxicoloides fulicatus).
