Range

Indian subcontinent

The white-bellied drongo is found across the Indian subcontinent. Like other drongos it is insectivorous and mainly black, but with a white belly and vent, and it is black without gloss on the upperside and greyish on the throat and breast. Young birds are all black and may be mistaken for the smaller, more compact black drongo (Wikipedia, general species account).

Three subspecies are recognised, including insularis in north Sri Lanka and leucopygialis in south Sri Lanka; the form found in Sri Lanka has the white restricted to the vent. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
