The black-hooded oriole is a resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia, a bird of open woodland and cultivation. It builds its nest in a tree and lays two eggs. Its food is insects and fruit, especially figs, found in the tree canopy where it spends much of its time (Wikipedia, general species account).
Linnaeus, confused by the resemblance of unrelated New World and Old World orioles, first described it from a mix of sources, and three of his names are now believed to refer to this one species. Nationally Least Concern (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
